Not an earth-moving statement, but I've always admired Brian Wilson as a songwriter, and I'd say objectively 'Good Vibrations' is probably a top 5 all time pop songs. When I was much younger I always wanted to write something that had that similar feel you'd find in pop music from that era. Especially with chord changes, space, and track length.

Lyrically, I also wanted to write a song about my love for my oversized Fender Twin Reverb amplifier that has no business being in a town house. I say this because it's incredible loud amp, but I do adore its sound and look. But one day, I'll have to sell it because it's just too loud.

Originally I wanted the album to be only 8 songs, but I added another one and I couldn't do a nine song album, because it didn't feel even. So to make sure I had ten songs, I thought it was time to write that catchy pop song that clocked in under 3 minutes, had different sections, and lyrics that anthropomorphised my amp. In the end, I had to switch the topic to writers block and long-term nuclear waste warning messages.
